Remodelaholic in Review: December 2015

We hope that December treated everyone well. We really enjoyed all of the holiday celebrations that we were able to spend with our friends and family and hope that you were able to get in a lot of that too! As fun as December is, it is a crazy month, even when you keep it low-key the excitement is still there and in full force. I am excited that January is here and that my mind can slow down and I can focus more on daily routines and getting the house back to normal.

December 2015 in Review

As always, we have lots of great DIY projects for your home featured on our site as well as on our Facebook and Instagram feeds.  If you have a project you are planning or working on, come check out the inspiration, tips, and design suggestions.

The beginning of December we spent finishing our featured 12 days of Christmas posts. We had so much fun focusing on the holiday; the decorating and the activities. Cassity went over How to Decorate A Christmas Tree; Step by Step and we featured 25+ Free Printable Vintage Christmas Sheet Music, perfect to decorate with.

Justin created an amazing, and easy to follow tutorial for a DIY Pallet Wood Christmas Tree Advent Calendar which is not only a great piece to display, but so much fun to use as well! Because vintage images are loved by so many right now, we also compiled  25+ Free Vintage Christmas Card Images which would also create beautiful holiday decor, it was also fun to look through the images and be reminded of the magic of Christmas from a child’s eyes.

Throughout the month Cassity also focused on and shared a number of tips  on styling or decorating your home. Something that I really want to focus on this year is the style and decor in my home and her posts were so beneficial to me! Adding Interest and Variety to Your Decor is a great article that lists different items and how they can be used in your home. I love the creativity and the unique look each idea offers.

Each day we are exposed to a number of ideas that we love and wish we could incorporate them into our home. From the internet and magazines to homes we visit or store displays, how do you take that inspiration into your home? That’s what Cassity covered in her Turning Styling Inspiration into Reality post. It’s perfect to help you get started and follow through with making the pictures in your head come out perfectly in you home.

Reality

For those like me who aren’t confident about your arrangement skills, this post on Styling My Dresser: Before and After is great to check out. it walks you through item by item and decision by decision to help you know where and how to place things. So that your dresser can be just as stylish as the rest of your house.

I loved the ideas in Cassity’s post, Why You Should Use Trays In Your Home Decor. There are so many logical reasons that we should use trays, but they also look fabulous! It definitely made me want to go purchase some trays to use in my home! I hope it gave you some great ideas too!

Kitchen’s are definitely one area of the home that we should love. We all spend so much of our time in that room, it should definitely reflect our style and be something we love to look at while we are in there. This month we had an a beautiful Kitchen Mini-Makeover with Affordable Tiled DIY Marble Countertops and Aged Copper Light Fixture shared with us on our site from Annie at zevy joy. She shared her before and after photos as well as simple instructions on how you can do a mini-kitchen makeover yourself as well! Check out her new counter tops as well as her fabulous subway tile backsplash and see if it’s a style you would love to add to your home!

A fun and unique idea that may be the solution for your bathroom window is a Master Bathroom Renovation with Sliding Mirror Over the Window. While windows are fantastic for the fact that they open up a room, they also remove privacy. Cheryl from Since I Became A Mom faced this problem and came up with the solution of a sliding mirror over the window. She has a gorgeous bathroom and the mirror adds so much character and the privacy she was looking for.

Another contributor from our Holiday Guest Series is Debi from DLR Designs for You. Debi created design plans for her Beautiful Built-In Bed Nook with Storage Drawers so that you can now DIY! Her plans are simple and easy to follow and the end result could definitely make your friends and family swoon. It’s a dreamy bed, I am excited to see who follows her designs plans and to see what your finished product looks like!

We were so excited to have Marie from Paint It White share a post with us today on a Beautiful White Kitchen Update (with chalk paint!). I love the use of white paint and don’t actually have any in my own home! I love seeing the before and after photos and reading articles, like her great post, on updating an old room into something new.

People who can repurpose something they no longer need into something that they will use again always amaze me. Keri from Repurposing Junkie makes it look easy! In the post she shared with us on how she Repurposed Old Ceiling Fan blades into a Decorative Airplane you can see how creative she is and how much fun she has! You can create a DIY Ceiling Fan Airplane or you can be inspired by her creativity and create something new by repurposing the old things in your home.

Capping off our Holiday Guest Series is Kammy from Kammy’s Korner. She and her husband have been using their skills and talents to remodel a fabulous historic mansion that they purchased. In this post that Kammy shared with us she goes over the DIY Built-in Breakfast Bar Dining Table that they recently completed. Trust me when I say that if you haven’t viewed her post yet, it’s one you definitely don’t want to miss!
