Hello again! Dawn here, from DesigningDawn.com, back with another mood board for your decoration inspiration. With the weather cooling down fast, I thought it was an appropriate time to talk about decorating outdoor spaces for the cooler autumn weather.
Don’t those spaces just make you want to curl up under a plaid blanket and sip some hot chocolate next to a fire while relaxing on your patio and reading your favorite book? Well that might be weirdly specific, but that’s what they do to me. So I set out to create a mood board for a cozy and inviting outdoor patio space. Here’s what I came up with:

I know you’re ready to get your own outdoor space prepped for autumn, so here are some tips to make the transition:
• Warm Colors – Warm colors (think oranges, yellows, reds, browns, coppers, golds, etc.) are the epitome of fall. Take a cue from nature and let go of the cooler greens and blues in favor of warmer shades. Not only will it instantly bring a fall feeling to your space, but warmer colors can even trick the eye and mind into thinking the temperature is a bit warmer too.
• Soft Textures – It’s all about cozy when it comes to fall. Soften up the space with lots of pillows, blankets, and don’t forget a soft rug too. Plaid patterns are a staple and can be mixed and matched liberally to create an inviting, collected look.
• Mood Lighting – Another trick to making a space feel warmer is to make sure it is lit appropriately. When the evenings get dark faster, brighten things up with warm outdoor lights. The ambient flickering flames of candles always makes a space feel soft and warm, or try a fire-pit for real warmth and light! It makes a great gathering/conversation spot too.
• Don’t forget the flora – Just because it’s autumn doesn’t mean you have to give up on decorating with plants and flowers. There are plenty of late blooming flowers, like the mums pictured above, that can add a lot of color, texture, and life to your space. If you’re not a green thumb, try easy additions like pumpkins or gourds to get that plant-life feel without the maintenance.
I hope some of these tips and inspiring images get your creative mind working on how to use your outdoor spaces this autumn!
