Pinterest named sage green the “new neutral” for 2018 and we definitely can see why. Not only is sage a soothing, earthy hue but it also pairs well with many different home decor styles.Whether you gravitate towards farmhouse chic or coastal contemporary, this “new neutral” has a place in your home.
The 2018 version of sage green is an update on the olive and seafoam green trends of the past. To achieve this look, you’ll want to choose a muted green that’s infused with blue and gray tones.
Today we’re highlighting six ways to decorate with the color sage, including suggested paint colors and products.

6 Ways to Decorate Your Home with the Color Sage Green
Shutters
Sage is a favorite neutral of Joanna Gaines, so it’s no surprise she used it in the “A Lot of Options House” on a recent episode of Fixer Upper. To complete this home’s exterior, Joanna added lovely sage green shutters which perfectly coordinate with the cream stucco, wood accents and window boxes. We’ve also seen Joanna use the color sage in The Chip 2.0 House and The Graham House just to name a few.

Tile Backsplash
Adding a sage colored tile backsplash is the perfect way to add some personality to a white kitchen without straying from neutral tones. This kitchen from BHG carries the green from the backsplash over to the fabric cushions on the bar stools. The subtle pop of color brings visual interest and texture to the room.

Kitchen Cabinets
Sage green kitchen cabinets are popping up all over this year. For the “A Lot of Options House” on Fixer Upper, Joanna added sage green cabinets in the kitchen to mirror the shutters on the home’s exterior. She also used the same color on interior doors. We also love the minty green version of sage on these kitchen cabinets from BHG.

Wall Color
We love the effect of the muted green walls in this bedroom from BHG and Fixer Upper dining room. Sage green is an especially good choice for a bedroom. It adds some color while still remaining neutral. A tranquil bedroom lends itself well to relaxation and a good night’s sleep.

Bead Board & Wallpaper
Bead board and wallpaper are both terrific ways to give a room some texture and depth. Lauren from Bless’er House did a fabulous job using black and white accents to offset the green bead board in her revamped powder room. Adding sage green to a space–like with the wallpaper in the entryway from BHG below–also allows for other green hued accents like the entryway’s emerald tile floor.

Artwork
One of the easiest ways to try out a new color is with artwork. The living room from BHG below expertly demonstrates how to pull colors from a painting and use them in other decor throughout the room. Note the green hues found in the velvet chair, throw pillows, and floral stems. This technique is an easy way to tackle the design of any room.
