Create a Farmhouse Laundry Room On a Budget

Hi friends! This is Kristin from Postbox Designs, Interior E-Design, I own an Online Interior Design company, so I live and breathe all things interior design. Which is why I’m so thrilled to be back this month to share an exclusive Mood Board just for you Remodelaholic readers. This month I want to share a budget friendly update of my favorite room in the house: The Laundry Room.

This hardworking room used to get no love, usually shoved into a closet or basement. But these days we have come to give our Laundry Rooms the attention they deserve! These little rooms do a lot of work, and if you spend as much time in yours as I do, you want them to look pretty. But you also want materials that are durable, easy to clean, and work well around water. So I created a Budget Friendly Farmhouse Laundry Room Mood Board to achieve just that goal.Postbox Designs: Create a Farmhouse Laundry Room on a Budget

But Wait…There are 3 Free Laundry Room Mood Boards

In fact, I have THREE Laundry Room Mood Boards to share with you today: today’s newest Mood Board, another Remodelaholic Industrial Laundry Room Mood Board (see the link at the bottom of the post). And finally, I have a third Farmhouse Laundry Room Mood Board and Source List you can find in my Free Resource Library if you sign up (see at the bottom of the post)

But before I share the Source List of today’s Farmhouse Laundry Room, let’s get inspired with some beautiful Farmhouse Laundry Rooms done to perfection:

Twelve On Main

This Laundry Room has easy-to-clean subway and floor tile that also look beautiful. A simple table with wood top doubles up as a folding table and storage for laundry bins.

Jenna Sue Design

This Laundry Room is a Farmhouse dream: pale gray cabinets, rustic hardware, subway tile, and those dreamy sconces. Plus can you imagine so much storage and space to spread out? Amazing.

Houzz

This light and bright white Laundry Room has similar butcherblock tops and canvas laundry bins on wheels as today’s Laundry Room Mood Board. Having laundry baskets on wheels means the kids can wheel their own laundry back to their bedrooms!

Studio McGee

And finally this beautiful Farmhouse Laundry Room from Studio McGee shows the perfect budget-friendly solution when pairing front loaders next to a sink. Use simple, inexpensive wood tops, and create simple wood “legs” on either side of your appliances to work with the drop to the sink cabinet.

To create a Farmhouse Laundry Room that was beautiful yet budget friendly, I carefully selected certain materials to use.

Flooring: These vinyl floor tiles are meant to look like the cement tiles made famous by Fixer Upper: they are inexpensive and easy to install, plus will work perfect in a wet environment. If you want to further warm up the space, this jute rug is naturally dirt resistant and is a total workhorse.

Butcherblock Countertops: If you are using front loaders, install a simple wood countertop (like this pre-finished one for under $200) over your appliances. This creates a folding area, plus area to store laundry baskets. If you are using a sink, create a step-down like the Studio McGee image above.

Lighting: Surface mount ceiling lights are fairly easy to swap out-using a farmhouse metal light is a budget friendly upgrade.

Laundry Baskets: I love these oversized canvas bins on wheels: they can be wheeled around to collect or return laundry. Plus you can easily push them in and out of your storage area.

Accessories: Fun farmhouse accessories make this space feel as styled as the rest of your home. This wood Laundry Room sign adds Farmhouse charm. (PS: Get the tutorial + template to make your own here.)

And what is the galvanized bucket for? Use this as a beautiful trash bin (for lint, loose debris, etc.) Or store tools like clothespins or dryer sheets inside.

Hooks: Use these hooks to hang clothing that needs special attention, such as air-dry or dry clean only items.

Paint: Laundry Rooms are typically small and even windowless, so keep your Farmhouse Laundry Room bright and airy with white paint. I used Benjamin Moore’s “Simply White” in this space. Paint your walls in a Bath/Kitchen grade paint for easy to clean walls.
