Bring the Color of the Year Home!

Have you heard?  For the first time ever, Pantone has chosen TWO colors as their color of the year!!  They are Rose Quartz, a warm rosy pink, and Serenity, a tranquil blue, blended together to create a beautiful, harmonious pairing.  Fun!

Today, Stephanie of the Do It Yourself Divas is showing how she used Minted, (the online marketplace connecting you with independent artists from all over the world), to update her space.  She created a new gallery wall featuring an array of Minted limited edition art prints inspired by Pantone’s Color of the Year.  And we are going to show you how to put it all together with a few tips to create your own gallery wall plus a chance to win $250 in Minted Art to help refresh your space.

Define your space

To begin, you need to keep in mind the size of the wall and space you need to fill.  Knowing this will help you decide how much art, and the sizes of the art that you need to fill the space.  A good rule of thumb to keep in mind when creating a gallery wall over a sofa is to make sure your collection is 2/3 the length of your sofa.  All of Minted’s prints come in a wide array of sizes, from 5 x 7” to 60 x 44.” Stephanie chose to keep her gallery wall streamlined and modern. Feel free to experiment with a more organic, less uniform look. Either way, mapping out your wall ahead of time will help decide what size pieces you’ll want to order.

Select your art

Once you know the space you are trying to fill, start selecting your art.  A good tip is to remember that you don’t have to work with a “set” of images.  In fact, selecting several different art pieces helps to create a look that is created and curated over time.

However, to make them work together,  I really like selecting several pieces that are related but different, kind of like siblings.   Using color, in this case, Pantone’s color(s) of the year this is the perfect way to bring different pieces together.  For example, Stephanie chose 5 pieces.  You will notice that each piece has a recurring theme, that is color or movement.

In these last two choices, you’ll notice that not every piece needs to be Rose Quartz and Serenity in order to fit nicely with the color story of the gallery wall. Notice how Stepping Stones enhances the gallery wall with its neutral color and simple design.

Organize your images

Hanging your gallery wall is very easy, and since the pieces come framed and equipped with hooks, all you need to do is measure and hang.  I LOVE easy installation like that!!  When I am hanging a gallery wall, I measure out the space, and use painters tape to mark out the size of my wall on the floor.  I like to lay my pieces into the space until the arrangement is pleasing.  I take a picture and some spacing measurements and then start sticking them on my wall.

Stephanie’s neutral furniture and wall color keeps the focal point on the gallery wall. Although Minted offers a wide array of framing options, Stephanie chose to keep things clean by opting for chic white frames. The simple backdrop and frames greatly enhances the beauty of the Rose Quartz and Serenity inspired gallery wall, don’t you think?
