Inspiration File: Chic Office Makeover

Homepolish Stefan Stein - Anthroplogie chair with gallery wall

When Michele Marie PR co-founders Jill Cooper and Sara Andréasson were looking to revamp their Beverly Hills office space, they turned to Homepolish’s Stefani Stein to create a soft, sophisticated look mirroring the sensibility of their A-list clientele. Michele Marie PR is a full-service public relations agency specializing in editorial, celebrity and event driven press in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle industries.

Jill and Sara wanted an office where they could comfortably meet with their team. To achieve this vision, Stefani used a light color palette and kept the scale of the furniture small to ensure there was enough room for everyone to move comfortably through the space. Here Stefani reveals her design techniques and shares ways to incorporate the same aesthetic in your own home. As an added bonus, you can find many of the furniture and textiles Stefani used at popular home decor stores like West Elm and Anthropologie.

Selecting a palette with light colors helps make the space feel more open. I love to blend of a bit of old in with the new. The vintage Italian gilded table is the perfect complement to the blush tones and feminine lines of the furniture in this space. The end result is comfortably chic.

The Velvet Tillie Armchair by Anthropologie adds just the right amount of color; a playful pop to brighten up the space. I paired the chair with an embroidered pillow from Aelfie, which provided just the right amount of Hermes orange, one of Jill and Sara’s favorite colors. Behind the chair is a gallery wall featuring thank you notes from Michele Marie PR’s fabulous and famous clients. Using the thank you notes—items they already had—made for a budget-friendly execution of a gallery wall.

Incorporating a mix of textures and patterns is always and important part of the design process.  Brunschwig & Fils’ pattern Les Touches is a classic that adds an elegant touch. Pairing it with a Turkish rag pillow provides subtle juxtaposition and keeps things current. The velvet Elton Settee from West Elm acts as a perfect, neutral backdrop.

Jill and Sara just had a photo-shoot for their new dress line, SHIFTS. We blew up one of the stills from the shoot, and incorporated it into the space. Blush tones play an important role in this room, from the Linen Tillie Armchair available at Anthropologie to the Genevieve Gorder Muraco Rug by Lulu & Georgia.

While the main goal was to make the office a functional and stylish meeting space, the addition of a small desk makes paperwork a bit more manageable. Wall mounted shelving can double as extra storage. Here we used it to feature more of their amazing accessory lines. A CB2 marble lamp completes the look.

This photo is perhaps my favorite detail shot. The cane details in the Threshold tray from Target subtly reinforce the mid-century elements that the co-founders love. In one of our first meetings we discussed strategies for infusing the space with a lady-like Mad Men vibe. A desktop tray is also a great opportunity for layering. Here we chose to showcase some of the many accessory lines that Michele Marie PR represents. My personal favorite is the Isharya cuff. A vintage Virginia Metalcrafters Ginko Leaf dish also holds a necklace by BaubleBar, but can just as easily keep paperclips or keys within reach.

In the lobby, we opted to keep things more minimal. Because the office is also a showroom, the ability to feature clients’ lines, without competing with the aesthetics of the furnishings, was paramount. The steel tanker desk was a fantastic find. Here it is paired with the Assembly Home Plus Sign Printed Rug (available at Urban Outfitters) and a custom neon sign featuring the company logo.

Incorporating functional and chic accessories is a simple way to declutter and add style at the same time.  Michele Marie PR had a great collection of fashion books throughout their office, so we decided to consolidate them into a lobby library.

A purse by the firm’s client, Cynthia Rowley, is the perfect compliment to Marco Lorenzetto’s Blu Confini. The Tribal Black fabric by Kufri Life, featured here on a custom pillow, is one of my absolute favorite textiles.
