How to Decorate a Christmas Tree, in Just FIVE Steps! A beautiful well-decorated Christmas tree might look daunting, but this 5-step process will help you make it catalog-worthy, whether your style is more sparkly glam or more cottage rustic. Details from Sincerely Sara D on Remodelaholic.com

Hi guys! I’m Sara, and I am the DIY home décor blogger behind Sincerely, Sara D. I am thrilled to be contributing today on Remodelaholic, and I love sharing my projects in hopes of inspiring and showing how anyone can create a beautiful space with little cost! Previously on Remodelaholic, I’ve shared my laundry room pegboard storage and starched fabric wall, and you can build a vintage mail sorter shoe cubby like mine using these plans that the team put together, too.

Today I am sharing a “recipe” for decorating a Christmas tree.  There are a five steps needed to achieve a gorgeous Christmas tree, and the great thing about these steps is that is can be personalized to fit your decor style!  For instance, I use white lights but maybe you prefer color lights.  Change up the ingredients in the steps to make the perfect tree for your home.

1. ADD LIGHTS

Twinkling Christmas trees are so gorgeous and turning on those lights add instant wow factor.  Although there are several ways to add your lights.  I prefer to use an extension cord and wrap it up the tree trunk.  That way, lights can be added starting at the top of the tree verses starting at the bottom.  Remember to connect no more than three strands of lights!

2. ADD FILLER

By “filler” I mean pretty things you stick in the tree (similar to something you would find in a floral arrangement).  Filler adds interest to the tree and helps fill any holes.

3. ADD RIBBON

Ribbon adds texture to the tree.  There are several ways you can add it.  You can wrap it around the tree, you can stream it down the tree starting from the top and you can cut ribbon sections and add sporadically through the tree.

4. ADD ORNAMENTS

It is easiest to add the ornaments at the end.  Try to visually keep them even throughout the tree and if you have pets or babies, you may need to skip adding ornaments to the bottom of the tree.

5. ADD A TREE SKIRT

These are like shoes.  The tree skirt can make or break the outfit.  When you wear a pretty dress, you definitely want to wear pretty shoes.  The same goes for your Christmas tree!
