I love cinnamon rolls, seriously, if I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, I would probably pick cinnamon rolls and never complain. They are doughy and so full of sweet and warm flavors that honestly they make the perfect breakfast or dessert when the chilly temps come around.
So when I was looking for a fun mocktail recipe to share with my family and friends during the holidays I knew I had to try my hand at making something featuring cinnamon rolls. And this is how this recipe came to life.
It’s thick, it’s creamy, it’s extremely indulgent, it has the perfect dose of cinnamon and brown sugar and it’s like a drinkable cinnamon roll in the best possible way. Also cooking it (because it needs to simmer for a bit) creates the most amazing bakery style smell, so your home ends up smelling like if Santa’s workshop had installed a small cafe for the elves.
The reason why this is so creamy is because we are thickening it with egg yolks, if you have never used egg yolks for a drink before fear not, it’s kind of like doing an eggnog and they get cooked with the warmth of the milk, so you are not consuming them raw. The only thing you need to be careful is adding them slowly to the mix and mixing well so they don’t end up overcooked. Because that it’s all smooth sailing.
Decorate your drink with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon and serve it hot with some cookies to dip. Or add some ice and make it a milkshake.
