How to Get the Look: Coastal Inspired Basement Kitchenette

If you can’t go bold, bright, and whimsical in a children’s space, where else can you do it? If you love this look, as well, but don’t know where to start in your own home, we’ve outlined some tips and sources below to get you started!  We’ve found some nearly identical items (and some are the exact ones) so you can recreate this playful look in your own home!

Get tips and tricks for achieving this Coastal Inspired Basement Kitchenette in your own home! We love the white board and batten grid wall, navy blue island, gold sconces and floating shelves!

BOARD AND BATTEN GRID WALL

Some people consider all white walls boring. But, when you add an architectural feature like that board and batten grid wall, you immediately make the white walls much more interesting! This can be a very affordable way to add a higher-end look when you use MDF boards from your local lumber store. For the white, we’d recommend Benjamin Moore Simply White for a warmer tone, or Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White for a purer version.

ADD NAVY BLUE ELEMENTS

The addition of navy blue in this otherwise white space adds a coastal vibe and playfulness to this space. We’d recommend a color like Benjamin Moore Hale Navy for a similar look.

FLOATING SHELVES

The floating shelves add interest to the white accent wall and are a great way to display unique items or your own personal collections. This is a much more affordable alternative to cabinet uppers and it adds a fun design element to the space!

CEMENT TILES

The bold, graphic cement tiles pack a major punch in this basement kitchenette area. This pattern, in contrasting gray tones, adds visual interest, but also help to hide dirt in a high traffic area. You could also attempt a DIY project by painting or staining your existing concrete floors in the pattern and colors of your choosing and them sealing them.
