DIY 2×6 Bench, Modern Waterfall Bench Tutorial

Hey guys!  Remember way back when we showed you the entry makeover that we did. well, it has only been about 6 months for us to get the promised bench tutorial put together!  Sorry about that.  Truly I might be the worst blogger on the planet, I have projects all the way back from 2012 that I have never posted about…  Anyway, here is the tutorial for the 2×6, modern waterfall bench that we designed and built for our entry.

Below you will find the instructions on how to build your own.

Materials:

  • (3) 2×6 x 10′ Boards
  • (32) 1 1/2″ Pocket Hole Screws

Tools Needed:

  • Miter Saw or Circular Saw
  • Orbital Sander
  • Drill
  • Pocket Hole Kreg Jig
  • Clamps (optional)

Cut List: 

Sides

  • (2) 18″ x 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″
  • (4) 16 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Top

  • (2) 72″ x 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″
  • (1) 69″ x 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Construction Steps:

Step One

Cut the legs pieces to length.  On the two short side pieces drill two pocket holes on the top inside (see pocket hole locations above for reference).  

 

These holes will attach the top to the side legs.  Drill holes on the sides toward the long middle piece.  These holes will hold the leg pieces together.

Sand all the pieces.

Then attach them together with pocket hole screws, to make the two side legs.

Step Two

Cut the top pieces to length.  On the two long pieces, drill pocket holes on the underside of the board toward the middle short board.

On the middle board drill two pocket holes at each end.  these will help attach to the side legs.

Sand all the pieces then attach them together with pocket hole screws, to make the top of the bench.

Step Three

Assemble the sides to the top with eight pocket hole screws.

Step Four

Finished as desired.

We decided to leave ours natural with no finishes.
