Explore a beautiful, comfortable combination of styles with this Southwestern Mid-Century Mashup mood board. Plenty of inspiration plus tips for making it work in your home from AD Aesthetic on Remodelaholic.com

Hello again! Dawn here, from AD Aesthetic, and I’m back with another mood board for your decoration inspiration. One of my favorite decorating styles has always been Mid-Century Modern, but I also just LOVE the patterns and textures associated with Southwestern style. Lately, the two have been blending together in my home, and I’m not alone! It seems that Southwestern Mid-Century Mashup is becoming more popular all the time, so today I thought I’d put together a mashup moodboard, just for fun.

Before we get to that though, just check out all the amazing inspiration photos I found while browsing around the web:

Mixing Southwestern Mid-Century Styles

Mixing styles is always tricky. It can easily tip too far one way or the other, making the room look southwest with a random mid century piece thrown in, or vice-versa. The trick, in my mind at least, is to make sure that there is a good mix of styles, and that the majority of pieces you select could work in either style.

For example, the chair I chose here is certainly a mid-century style, but rather than opting for a vibrant bold color, as I might in a strictly Mid Century room, I went with a more subdued fabric that mirrors the colors of nature found in Southwest style. The prints I chose, while they have distinct Southwest imagery, are framed in modern, clean white frames. The rug has a very prominent Southwest pattern, but the blue and gray colors tone it down and evoke more of a mid-century feel.

Another thing I like to keep in mind is texture. Having a good mix, in this case, of sleek Mid-century elements (like the marble topped coffee table) combined with more natural textured elements (like the woven baskets) is a great way to blend two styles together.

Finally, chosing colors that run through both styles is a great way to blend everything seamlessly. I’ve already mentioned how the rug and chair colors help them work in the room. Similarly, the traditional Mexican blanket in a blue tone, as opposed to a more vibrant red or orange, helps it work in harmony with other pieces in the space. The colors in the artwork also have a cooler tone than some more traditional Southwest artwork, helping them to fit right into the overall palette of the room.

As always, thank you to Cassity and the Remodelaholic team for having me back each month. I’d love for you to visit me over on my site, ADaesthetic.com, or follow me on Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram for more updates and inspiration. Have a great day, friends!
