Hello friends! Elisha from Pneumatic Addict here. I confess, I have a horrible black thumb. I manage to kill every plant I get my hands on. That being said, I'm obsessed with house plants and I keep trying. In fact, this is my third planter I've share with you guys here on Remodelaholic (Tall Concrete Planter and Modern Table Top Planters).
After walking through Joann's one day I spotted inexpensive square vases, like the kind you'd see floating candles in at everyone's wedding back in the day. I got inspired and decided to make a new wood and glass centerpiece for my dining table.

Materials & Tools
- miter saw or circular saw
- brad nailer
- 1-1/4″ 18 gauge brad nails
- measuring tape
- wood glue
- wood filler
- sandpaper
Cut List
- (1) 1 x 6 @ 30″
- (2) 1 x 2 @ 30″
- (7) 1 x 2 @ 4″
Building Instructions
1. First, use a miter saw or circular saw to cut the 1 x 6 board down to 30″.
2. Cut 1 x 2 x 30″ side rails. Align a rail flush to each side, on top of the board. Attach using glue and 1-1/4″ brads.
3. Place 1 x 2 x 4″ end pieces between side rails, flush to the ends. Secure in place using glue and 1-1/4″ brads driven from the ends and bottom.
4. Space 1 x 2 x 4″ center dividers 4-1/8″ apart. Attach using glue and 1-1/4″ brads driven from the ends and bottom.
5. Fill all nail holes and seams, and sand everything smooth.
6. Fill each vase with whatever plan you'd like. Since the glass containers don't have drainage holes, it's a good idea to pour some gravel or stones in the bottom before filling with soil to help the water drain from the roots of the plants.
Place your centerpiece in it's new home and you're done!
I tried the planter on the mantle of my friend's Renter Friendly Fireplace, which we just built. I loved the little touch of nature it brought to the space, but it ended up on my kitchen table like I had planed. Fingers crossed I can keep these cute little succulents alive!
I'm digging lighter toned and natural wood right now. What do you think? I like the contrast with the darker stained table top.
My family has a couple of weddings coming up this summer. I'm definitely going to use this easy, long centerpiece idea somewhere. Are you ready to build your own? Pin the image below to save the idea for later.
